Second Edition
Since its First Edition in February, 2011, FICUNAM laid down the basis to create a new space in Mexico to gather the most vertiginous avant-garde cinema and to screen the films of great authors from the past who remain relevant, as well as those by still-active new masters.
The film menu offered by the Festival is preceded by the titles shown during the Feature-Film International Competition, a section which echoes the audacious spirit of the Festival. Our program covers an overview of international contemporary cinema, retrospectives of specific authors, an international film-school gathering, as well as various lectures and academic activities by first-rate international figures of cinema and cinema critique.
Sessions with the participation of filmmakers, theoretical and practical workshops, discussion tables, incentives for critique writing, master classes by influential filmmakers —in conjunction with the “UNAM’s Ingmar Bergman Chair in Film and Theater”— as well as open-air screenings and special events. FICUNAM is synonymous with the communion between film exhibition and the academic world, between film enjoyment and analysis, between entertainment and education in order to promote the cultural catharsis we intend for our audience and the Mexican film world.
Under the auspices and shelter of the National Autonomous University of Mexico with its theaters and premises, FICUNAM is conceived to reach all citizens. With respect and enjoyment for films and its creators, the Festival responds to a mission of forming audiences around the idea of cinema as an art and film screening as a social driving force.
We invite you to the Second Edition of the UNAM International Film Festival, that will take place in Mexico City from the 23rd of February to the 1st of March, 2012.
