Cinematógrafo del Chopo is part of the Chopo University Museum, inaugurated by the rector of the University, Guillermo Soberón, on November 25th, 1975. Ever since it first opened its doors, the Chopo University Museum became a dynamic center for the promotion of contemporary art, characterized by an innovative, including, and diverse spirit. Through its work, the Museum has placed itself as an obligatory reference in avant-garde art.
In 2006 and 2007, the Chopo Museum renovated its premises to better help with the necessities of contemporary art through an intervention by architect Enrique Norten, implemented by the Coordinación de Proyectos Especiales de la UNAM (UNAM Special Projects Coordinating Office) in charge of architect Felipe Leal. The goal was to establish continuity in the artistic project and to keep contributing towards one of the essential duties of the UNAM: to spread the benefits of culture to the largest amount of citizens through the promotion and diffusion of contemporary art.

All of these elements create a new vision of cultural development through which access to these kinds of activities becomes a regular experience. There is an art gallery, a library, a toy library, and a bookshop. It also offers regularly free courses and workshops.
Cine Lido. Cineteca Nacional
Tamaulipas 202, Col. Condesa
http://www.cinetecanacional.net/
The history of Cine Lido began in 1942, with Charles Lee’s idea of creating a luxury theater with over 1,300 seats and a tower over 20 meters high. After a period of prosperity, it was remodeled during the 70s and it changed its name to Bella Época. The Centro Cultural Bella Época was first conceived during Consuelo Sáizar’s administration of the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE).
In order to respect the origins of the place, part of its original infrastructure was preserved in a small theater used not just for film screening, but also for book presentations and children’s shows.
To reclaim the original spirit of the building where Centro Cultural Bella Época now stands, Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (Conaculta), FCE, and Cineteca Nacional established a collaboration agreement through which Cineteca Nacional will handle the administration of that small theater preserved in the cultural center.
Thus, Sala Lido will be integrated as part of Cineteca Nacional as a new decentralized film-screening space that will function with the high quality standards —in terms of programming as well as technical standards and service— characteristic of Cineteca Nacional. The titles will be screened in digital format.
